With reference to my despatch No. 340 of December
27th last year, relative to the claim put forward by
F. L. Fondon, Limited, of Shanghai, for the loss or
destruction of goods belonging to them at Port Arthur
and Harbin, I tranevi, herewith, a copy of a letter
from the Colonial Office on the subject.
In view of the fucts disclosed in the report as
to the Status of the Company furnished by the Governor
of Hongkong, I request that you will inform i essra.
Fondon that the result of the enquiries which have been
instituted leaves me in no doubt that the predominating
interests of the Company are not British and that ills
Hujeaty's Government would therefore not be justified
